Homeowners
Licensed residential electrical for Carlsbad and North County homeowners -- panel upgrades, EV chargers, remodels, lighting, and service calls done right the first time.
What We Provide for Homeowners
Finding a residential electrician you can trust is harder than it should be. You want someone who is actually licensed, pulls permits when required, shows up when they say they will, and gives you a straight answer on what the work costs before they start. That is how Wheyland Electric has operated in Carlsbad since 2008. We handle the full range of residential electrical -- from panel upgrades and EV charger installations to kitchen remodel rough-in, recessed lighting retrofits, and service call diagnostics. Every project is scoped in writing, permitted where required, performed by our licensed electricians, and backed by a one-year labor warranty. We know the neighborhoods -- La Costa HOA coordination, Olde Carlsbad aluminum wiring, Aviara pool and spa compliance, Bressi Ranch smart home systems -- and we bring that local knowledge to every job.

How We Work With Homeowners
On-Site Assessment
We visit your home, evaluate the electrical system, and discuss your project in detail. For service calls we diagnose the root cause before recommending any work. For larger projects we assess panel capacity, permit requirements, and any conditions that affect scope or cost.
Written Proposal
You receive a written proposal with itemized scope and pricing before we schedule anything. No verbal estimates, no surprise additions. If the scope changes during the project, we discuss it with you before proceeding.
Permit Coordination
For panel upgrades, EV chargers, new circuits, remodel rough-in, and other permitted work, we file with the City of Carlsbad Building Division, coordinate the inspection schedule, and attend the inspection. You do not manage the building department.
Professional Installation
Our licensed electricians complete all work to current NEC and California Electrical Code standards. We protect your home during installation, keep work areas clean, and do not leave jobs half-finished.
Testing, Inspection, and Handoff
We test all work before closeout, attend city inspections where required, and walk you through the completed installation. You receive any relevant documentation -- panel directories, permit records, warranty information -- at handoff.

Homeowners — Frequently Asked Questions
We handle the full range of residential electrical -- panel upgrades, EV charger installation, kitchen and bathroom remodel rough-in, ADU electrical, recessed lighting retrofits, ceiling fan and light fixture installation, outlet and switch repair, GFCI and AFCI upgrades, spa and hot tub wiring, dedicated circuits, service calls, and troubleshooting.
Yes. We manage the permit application and coordinate city inspections for all work that requires it -- panel upgrades, new circuits, EV chargers, remodel rough-in, and other permitted scopes. You do not deal with the building department at any point.
It depends on the scope. For interior work, HOA approval is usually not required. For exterior work -- EV charger conduit on the outside of the home, outdoor circuits, or any visible equipment -- some HOAs require architectural review. We advise you on what coordination is needed before starting any work that might be affected.
Yes. Aluminum branch wiring from the 1965-1973 era requires specific handling at every connection point. We use COPALUM or AlumiConn connectors at all aluminum-wired outlets, switches, and fixtures -- the code-accepted remediation method. We do not use push-in connectors or other shortcuts on aluminum wiring.
Panel upgrade cost depends on your current service size, the target amperage, meter socket condition, SDG&E coordination requirements, and permit scope. We provide written pricing after an on-site assessment -- we do not give accurate panel upgrade quotes over the phone without seeing the existing installation.
Most service calls and smaller projects are scheduled within one to two business days. Panel upgrades and EV charger installations typically schedule within the same week. Remodel rough-in timing is coordinated with your project schedule.
Yes. We install Level 2 chargers for all major EV brands -- Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Enel X, and universal J1772 and NACS-compatible hardware. We complete a load review before every installation to size the circuit correctly for your vehicle and future needs.
We serve every Carlsbad neighborhood -- La Costa, Olde Carlsbad, Bressi Ranch, Aviara, Calavera Hills, The Village, Robertson Ranch, and all surrounding areas -- plus Encinitas, San Marcos, Oceanside, Vista, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and Rancho Santa Fe. We are Carlsbad-based and respond quickly throughout North County.
